The profound negative affect that alcohol has had on my immediate family inspired the research and publication of this book The national ethics of drinking as a way of life are difficult to change. Even on an individual level a person's consciousness often must be significantly jolted in order to internalize the problem and attempt to change. This jolt may come about in many ways, but the most effective instrument of change is experiencing a real need, whether physical or spiritual, to make the effort to bring about lasting change. Of course an unexpected tragedy is, in many cases, the reason why a person's behavior will change. The drinking and driving epidemic which now plagues the world is a disaster. Hopefully, the data gathered here will have an impact on the general public. According to the National Council on Alcoholism of people stopped for driving under the influence(DUI) and cited for drunk driving, two-thirds are deemed to have a drinking problem
